Birdsville Safari 2012

18th June - 4th July 2012

For seventeen magical days, experience the fun, adventure and diverse landscape through the states of SA and QLD with your fellow club members and friends!

We start our odyssey in the historic railway town of Peterborough. Here we learn the basics of driving on dirt roads, what to look out for and motorhome maintenance. The outback truly beckons as we head off and take in the beauty of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges and discover the timeless wonders in the scenery and endless night sky.

Parachilna is next on the agenda and the remoteness adds to the pleasure of its one and only hotel – the Prairie Hotel, a truly iconic place to explore and enjoy a different kind of native cuisine. We will visit little towns of Beltana and Leigh Creek before resting at Marree for a night and heading onto Mungerannie for a swim in the hot artesian spring pools and a cold drink at the infamous Mungerannie Hotel.

We will leave together to travel up the Birdsville Track through sand hills, gibber plains interspersed with occasional creek beds on our way to the Tippipila Bush Camp.

Explore the great home of the famous Birdsville Hotel. Often referred to as Australia’s most isolated town, Birdsville and its attendant billabong is an oasis standing between the endless sands of the Simpson Desert and the gibber plains of Sturts Stony Desert.

And when we finally reach Mt Isa, after driving through Bedourie and Boulia, we have the chance to experience the sprawling and great mining city for 2 days.

The country cooked meals and breakfasts, the range of interesting venues and entertainment will no doubt remain memories for life! This will be a truly amazing and memorable trip and one not to miss out on!
